The LeBron Theory

When LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavs in 2010 and took his talents to South Beach I first thought, “wow, what an asshole.”

In some ways I still kind of think that but after hearing rumors that James could go back to the Cavs by opting out of his current contract with the Miami Heat after the 2014 season, I developed a theory that I have decided to document in some form.  So that when it happens I can say “I told you so.”

So, I think that the year before LBJ left Cleveland he had a sit down meeting with the owner of the Cavs and they talked about his future. They talked about how if the Cavs resigned LBJ they wouldn’t have enough money to put a team around him. It would just be more of the “one man show” in Cleveland and past years have shown that LBJ by himself can not win the whole thing.

However, if LBJ left during free agency he would not cost the Cavs anything.  LBJ told the owner that he could bitch and moan about him leaving and make a big show of it all and he wouldn’t care. The Cavs would go on to be terrible and get high draft picks (Kyrie Irving, Tristin Thompson) while LBJ was somewhere else winning championships with a big new contract. But in this contract there is a clause that says LBJ can opt out of his deal after a certain amount of years. After the Cavs have been able to build close to a winning team (by 2014) LBJ would opt out of his contract and come back to the Cavs and go on to win a championship for the city of Cleveland and the Cavs.

This is all a completely made up theory that I have come up with and if it ends up being true, well I should get a job or something out of it cause man, I told you so.

The Rams and Free Agency

Ok, so since it has been a while since I last posted and my last post was about the Rams, lets just keep it that way shall we?

With the Rams signing free agent Tight End Jared Cook for 5 years, the Rams have finally locked down the TE position for years to come. It’s not to say that Lance Kendricks cant get it done, it just helps to have two dominate TE who can spread the field vertically (see New England Patriots TE).

If the Rams can sign free agent LT Jake Long they will hopefully, fingers crossed, have found the answer to their offensive line that they have been looking for.  He was the number one overall pick in the draft for a reason, the guy can block. He is an absolute monster on the line and will give Sam Bradford the protection he needs to get the ball out quickly.

All and all after two days of free agency the Rams have made moves that will help them immediately and gives them options to fill other position holes in the draft. Maybe, just maybe, they draft a WR with the 16th or 22th pick in the first round. If he is there at 16 I think the Rams should draft Corderalle Patterson from Tennessee.  He has the size, speed, and hands that can make him the number one WR that the Rams have been missing since Torry Holt and Issac Bruce.

The NFL offseason has just gotten started and I personally cant wait for the draft to see the big moves teams make, especially the Rams.

Rams Draft

This years 2012 NFL Draft for the St. Louis Rams was interesting to say the least. When the Rams traded their number two overall pick to the Redskins for a lot of future draft picks was a brilliant move on new GM Les Snead’s part. They didn’t need to draft RG3 because they already have their franchise quarterback in Sam Bradford but what they did need was someone for him to throw the ball to.

Everyone expected Justin Blackmon to be there at the number six overall pick that the Rams had got from the Redskins, but the Jacksonville Jaguars really wanted Blackmon and they were willing to trade for it.  The Jaguars traded with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and selected Blackmon with the number five overall pick. I think most Rams fans, including myself were devastated when this happened.  Blackmon was supposed to be “THE GUY” next to Bradford and to have the Jaguars come in and trade their pick for him was upsetting to some.  The Rams traded down to the number 14 overall pick, this initially made me mad because I wanted to see the Rams get someone at the six spot but they did what the Patriots are famous for doing, trading down in the draft to acquire more draft picks allowing for more players. When the Rams did finally pick at the number 14th overall pick the selected Michael Brockers, and defensive tackle from LSU.

I think this was a good selection for the Rams, the Arizona Cardinals took Michael Floyd so there were no receivers they wanted at the number 14 spot were available.  Brockers will be a defensive force for the Rams D-line. He will be able to collapse the pocket on passing plays so Robert Quinn and Chris Long can come flying off the edge at the quarterback.  He can stop the run any day of the week, blasting through the offensive line and leveling the running back. The question now was when are the Rams going to draft a wide receiver.

With the 33rd pick in the draft, the first of the second round, the Rams selected Brian Quick, wide receiver from Appalachian State.  Finally, the Rams had their receiver.  Quick is big and fast and has great hands, everything you want in a receiver.  Some experts Quick going as high as the mid first round, there was no question he was the best player available at number 33. Quick has been compared to T.O. saying that he has the same type of amazing work ethic on the field but not same attitude. Quick, like T.O., can catch the goal-line fade pass which is something the Rams couldn’t do even in practice last year. With their second pick in the second round the Rams selected Jenoris Jenkins, corner back from Northern Alabama University.  Jenkins has had a number of off the field issues, which is why he fell so far in the draft, had he not had any issues he could have been a top ten draft pick.

All and all I think the Rams did a very good job in this years draft and I would give them a solid B+.

St. Louis Blues

The Blues are currently in second place in the NHL in points with 106 with three games left to play.  Tomorrow they play the Detroit Red Wings at home and need to win if they want to win the Presidents Trophy, which goes to the team with the most points.
